About the Mental CPR: Save Lives by Knowing the Five Signs Course

Nearly one in every five people, or 42.5 million American adults, has a diagnosable mental health condition. Half of all lifetime cases of mental disorders begin by age 14. Often our friends, neighbors, co-workers, and even family members are suffering emotionally and don’t recognize the symptoms or won’t ask for help. This 20-minute course in "mental CPR" will help you learn the signs that could one day help you save a life.

Save Lives by Knowing the Five Signs

  • recognize the five signs that might indicate someone is in emotional pain and might need help
  • be able to suggest some resources to those who might need help

This course based on the material provided by but run independently from The Campaign to Change Direction, a coalition of concerned citizens, nonprofit leaders, and leaders from the private sector who have come together to “change the story” in America about mental health, mental illness, and wellness. About Your Instructor, Bo Bennett, PhD

Bo Bennett, PhD

Dr. Bennett holds a PhD in social psychology and master's in general psychology. He is an adjunct professor at Lasell College in Massachusetts as well as instructor for several online courses related to psychology. He read about the Change Direction campaign in Time Magazine, and instantly knew that he had to get involved in the effort. Although mental health is usually in the domain of clinical psychologists, Dr. Bennett believes detecting signs of possible mental distress is something we all can do through our everyday social interactions. As the course presenter, Dr. Bennett created this course using the material provided at ChangeDirection.org.
