Understanding ADHD Beyond the Stereotypes
This lesson reframes ADHD as a neurodevelopmental condition involving attention regulation, executive function, impulse control, restlessness, and emotional regulation, not simply “being distracted” or “not trying hard enough.” It explains why adult ADHD can look different from childhood stereotypes and why many adults are missed, mislabelled, or diagnosed later in life.
Learners will distinguish ADHD traits from moral judgments, understand common adult presentations, and begin noticing how symptoms interact with context, demands, sleep, stress, and support. The lesson sets up the rest of the course by emphasizing practical, non-medication supports as complements to appropriate clinical care, not substitutes for diagnosis, therapy, or medication when those are needed.
