About this lesson
This lesson introduces monochrome thinking: the habit of judging a scene by tone, shape, light, and contrast instead of colour. You will learn why some subjects become stronger in black and white, how to spot tonal separation, and how to mentally preview a scene before you take the shot. By the end, you should be able to look at everyday subjects and ask, What is the image really doing without colour?
This is a foundation lesson, so we focus on perception and decision-making rather than camera settings or advanced editing. Later lessons will build on this by covering exposure, lighting control, composition, and post-processing for monochrome images.
