About this lesson

In this lesson, Professor David Grant introduces the sound system of beginner French: the alphabet, accent marks, silent final letters, nasal vowels, the French r, and the link between spelling and pronunciation.

Students learn how to say and recognize common French letters and sound patterns without trying to sound perfect immediately. The focus is practical: pronouncing names, reading simple words aloud, and building confidence for the first conversations that follow later in the course.
