About this lesson

Semantic HTML is the practice of choosing elements for their meaning, not just their default appearance. In this lesson, Professor Peter Lambert introduces why elements like header, main, nav, article, section, and footer make web pages easier for browsers, assistive technologies, search engines, developers, and future maintainers to understand.

You will learn how semantic markup improves accessibility, document structure, readability, and long-term maintainability. The goal is not to memorize every HTML5 element yet, but to understand the practical reason semantic choices matter before learning the individual elements in later lessons.
