About this lesson

This lesson introduces Hinduism as a diverse family of traditions rather than a single centralized creed. Students learn why terms such as Hinduism, Sanatana Dharma, and dharma matter, and why Hindu identity can include many languages, regions, philosophies, rituals, and devotional paths.

The lesson establishes first principles for respectful study: avoid reducing Hinduism to one book, one founder, one god, or one practice; pay attention to local context; distinguish insider and outsider terms; and recognize that Hindu traditions often hold unity and diversity together.
