About this lesson

This lesson introduces phobias as learned patterns of fear, body alarm, threat interpretation, and avoidance. Learners distinguish ordinary fear from a phobia, identify common fear-response symptoms, and understand why avoidance feels helpful in the short term but can keep the fear cycle going.

The focus is foundational: naming the pattern without shame, recognizing the role of the nervous system, and preparing for later lessons on exposure planning, cognitive skills, safety behaviors, setbacks, and rebuilding confidence.
