About this lesson

This lesson defines trauma in psychological terms and explains why it matters for mental health, relationships, learning, and physical wellbeing. Students will learn the difference between a traumatic event and a trauma response, why people can react very differently to similar experiences, and how trauma can affect attention, memory, emotion, and behavior. The lesson also introduces core trauma-informed principles that will be used throughout the course, while leaving treatment, recovery planning, and intervention strategies for later lessons.
