About this lesson

This lesson establishes the foundation for the CompTIA Network+ course by explaining what a network is, why networks exist, and how data moves between devices. You will learn the practical vocabulary that appears throughout the course, including nodes, links, packets, protocols, addressing, switching, routing, and common network devices.

It also explains how Network+ frames networking knowledge on the exam. Rather than memorizing isolated facts, you need to understand how components work together, how to recognize common scenarios, and how to reason through performance, availability, and security questions. This lesson prepares you for that approach without going too deep into topics that will be covered in later lessons.
